Jonathan Calugi

My name is Jonathan Calugi, I am an artist.

My work originates from a continuous and rhythmic line, through which I observe and re-elaborate the world. Abstract figures, faces, and organic forms intertwine in compositions that are sometimes dense, sometimes essential, but always deeply human and vital. My visual language is constantly evolving: it takes shape from an immediate but precise gesture, from a line that develops, connects, and transforms, giving rise to open images, capable of telling multiple stories simultaneously.

In my work, I seek a balance between instinct and construction, between simplicity and complexity. For me, drawing is a tool to create order and, at the same time, to open up new possibilities. Over the years, this language has extended beyond paper and screen, traversing different media and surfaces and translating into environmental interventions, installations, and public space projects. Whatever the context, I always seek a direct and accessible quality, capable of creating an immediate relationship with those who encounter my work.

For me, drawing is, first and foremost, connection. The figures I create meet, overlap, and transform, reflecting a deep idea of connection between people and the world. This is also why, over time, my path has often developed through collaborative projects, where the artwork becomes a shared space and the artistic act an experience capable of transforming not only places but also those who experience them.

Throughout my practice, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with international entities such as Apple, Airbnb, The Economist, The Guardian, Nike, Sony, The New York Times, ENI, Monocle, Herman Miller, Soho House, Porsche, and Huawei. In parallel, I have been invited as a keynote speaker at national and international events, including the ING Festival in Dubai and the Design Conference in Brisbane, Australia.
